"You may have read about the uniqueness of Arkwright Town in a national Sunday supplement"?
Arkwright Town was a five street township built as a railway settlement in the 1890's, which developed into a pit community around the old Arkwright colliery. In 1988 it was confirmed that methane gas was present under the terraced houses in the century old village and a decision was taken to rebuild the village a few hundreds yards away.
The new village was completed in 1995 and four hundred people moved across the main road to their new homes.
The Arkwright Centre is situated in the heart of the community and offers the community and businesses affordable 21st century facilities.
Having moved the old mining village of Arkwright Town and endured years of opencast mining we demand that Derbyshire County Council implement the agreed Restoration Plan in FULL and restore the land to woodland.
